Planning guide
Separate by material before pickup
Electronics, appliances, scrap metal, reusable furniture, yard waste and renovation debris may have different handling requirements. Sorting in advance improves visibility and reduces the risk of hidden restricted material.
- Keep electronics and batteries separate
- Identify refrigerant appliances
- Separate heavy concrete, tile or soil
- Keep reusable items dry and accessible
Do not make unsupported assumptions
No page can guarantee that every item will be donated or recycled. Available destinations depend on condition, material type, local receiving options and the approved load.
- Do not promise a recycling percentage
- Do not place hazardous waste in donation piles
- Remove personal data from electronics
Disclose regulated and hazardous material
Paint, chemicals, propane cylinders, fuel, oils, batteries, asbestos-containing material and contaminated waste require specific handling and may not be accepted.
- Photograph labels and containers
- Do not drain chemicals onto the ground
- Use appropriate municipal or specialist programs where required
