How to Prepare Yard Waste for Pickup

Manageable lengths, visible materials and honest weight information make seasonal yard-waste requests easier to review.

Planning guide

Cut and bundle branches

Branches should be cut to manageable lengths and grouped so the full pile can be seen.

  • Keep thorny material separate
  • Do not hide wire or nails in branches
  • Photograph the complete pile

Bag light material safely

Use bags that can be lifted safely and do not mix soil, rocks, chemicals or sharp items into ordinary yard waste.

  • Disclose wet or muddy material
  • Do not overfill bags
  • Keep bags protected from rain where possible

Separate heavy landscape material

Soil, sod, pavers, concrete and stumps are different from ordinary branches and leaves and require separate review.

  • Estimate dimensions and quantity
  • Show loading access
  • Identify machinery or manual-loading limits
