Protect your information
Back up files you need, sign out of accounts, remove SIM and memory cards, and complete secure data deletion appropriate to the device.
- Do not rely on physical removal as data destruction
- Remove labels containing confidential information
- Keep business records separate
Inspect batteries and screens
Swollen, leaking or damaged batteries and broken glass require disclosure and may need specialized handling.
- Do not puncture or compress batteries
- Keep damaged devices away from heat
- Photograph damage clearly
List devices accurately
Provide device type, count and approximate size. Large office electronics and commercial equipment may require separate review.
- Separate cables and accessories
- Identify CRT displays or unusually heavy devices
- Disclose installed batteries
