How to Prepare Appliances for Removal

Appliance pickup is safer to assess when the unit is empty, disconnected, measured and photographed with the carrying route.

Planning guide

Empty and clean the unit

Remove food, liquids and personal items. Defrost freezers where appropriate and manage water safely.

  • Remove loose shelves and trays
  • Secure doors without creating an unsafe sealed container
  • Disclose leaks, oil or damaged components

Confirm disconnection

Do not assume the removal crew will disconnect water, gas or hard-wired electrical connections. Arrange appropriate disconnection before pickup unless otherwise confirmed.

  • Photograph the connection area
  • State whether the appliance is built in
  • Identify refrigerant-containing equipment

Measure the route

Compare appliance dimensions with doorways, stairs and elevator openings.

  • Measure narrow doors and tight turns
  • Clear the route and protect fragile items
  • Disclose long carrying distances
