Post-Renovation Debris Preparation Guide

Identify every material and separate heavy or regulated components before requesting renovation-debris pickup.

Planning guide

Sort by material

Drywall, lumber, tile, concrete, metal, fixtures and insulation may have different handling requirements.

  • Separate concrete and tile from light debris
  • Keep sharp metal visible
  • Identify treated or painted wood

Use safe packaging

Do not overload bags or boxes. Cut long material to manageable lengths and protect sharp fasteners where safely possible.

  • Do not conceal broken glass
  • Keep dusty material contained appropriately
  • Avoid bags too heavy for safe lifting

Disclose regulated hazards

Asbestos-containing material, lead contamination, chemicals and other regulated hazards are not ordinary junk.

  • Stop work if suspect material is discovered
  • Use appropriate testing or specialist services
  • Do not mix hazardous material with approved debris
