Sort by material
Drywall, lumber, tile, concrete, metal, fixtures and insulation may have different handling requirements.
- Separate concrete and tile from light debris
- Keep sharp metal visible
- Identify treated or painted wood
Use safe packaging
Do not overload bags or boxes. Cut long material to manageable lengths and protect sharp fasteners where safely possible.
- Do not conceal broken glass
- Keep dusty material contained appropriately
- Avoid bags too heavy for safe lifting
Disclose regulated hazards
Asbestos-containing material, lead contamination, chemicals and other regulated hazards are not ordinary junk.
- Stop work if suspect material is discovered
- Use appropriate testing or specialist services
- Do not mix hazardous material with approved debris
